FG behind Northern bombings, says El-Rufai

Malam el-Rufai Malam el-Rufai

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Nasir el-Rufai yesterday accused   the Federal Government of being partly responsible for the spate of bombings in parts of the North and Abuja.
The alleged government’s involvement, according to him, was a diversionary measure.
Special Assistant on Political Matters to the President, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak dismissed the allegation as callous and unreasonable.
The former FCT minister and now a top member of the opposition party, the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) claimed in a BBC interview  monitored in Kaduna that government resorted to exploding bombs whenever  controversial issues arose in the country.
He cited the probe of the fuel subsidy by the House of Representatives.
“We have to start accusing the government because anytime we are in this problem, like when the Farouk committee in the House of Representatives  came out with its report on the fuel subsidy scam, at that time they started coming out with bombs all over,” he said.

Kuramo Beach: Where Sex Sells Like Hot Cake!

Some days ago, Lagos State Commissioner for the Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Prince Adesegun Oniru stated that those being called prostitutes at Kuramo Beach might be tourists. The Honourable Commissioner also volunteered to visit the place and clear it up if he gets any evidence of either a market or brothel sited there.

Street Journal’s findings however contradict the position of the Commissioner. Over the last few years, the beach has been rather notorious and tourists are gradually avoiding the place, only the strong willed now visit the place. Tell anyone on the Island you are going to Kuramo Beach and you will get yourself a second look. You might even get a warning about the notoriety of the beach.

I’ve Forgiven The Man Who Published My Nude Pictures – Anita Hogan

Nollywood actress Anita Hogan speaks about life after her nude photograph scandal
Why I took a break
The entertainment industry does not require you to be active every moment. Sometimes, you have to relax and take care of other issues. I have not done any production in a while. It is because I got married. You need to nurture and water your marriage, not just relax. You need to give your marriage time, invest in it and enjoy it. And this takes time. You have to stay away from other things and concentrate on it. You have to set your priorities right. Now I am back. I just finished a production. I am involved in other projects. I am writing a book on Anita Hogan. I have many stories to tell.

Oba Oladele Olashore Passes On At 77

The Ajagbusi Ekun, Aloko of Iloko Ijesa, Oba Oladele Olashore has joined his ancestors. The departed monarch who once served as Nigeria’s Minister for Finance died in the early hours of Saturday.
The monarch who owned the Olashore International Schools in Iloko Ijesa paid his dues as a banker, rising to become the Managing Director of First Bank Nigeria Limited. After his exit from First Bank, which was occasioned by his opposition to certain policies of the military government, he formed his own bank, Lead Merchant Bank. His school is listed among the best private schools in Nigeria.
He was known to be a stickler for discipline and he never believed in frivolities as his integrity mattered to him a great deal. In his days as Minister, during one of his trips to England, instead of staying in a 5-Star hotel at the expense of the government, he chose to stay in his home in West London

Why I wept openly for Nigeria – Buhari

A former Head of State, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has said the appalling state of Nigeria and the hardship of the citizens in the midst of abundance compelled him to weep openly for the nation in 2011.
Buhari said this while addressing journalists during his visit to the headquarters of his political party, the Congress for Progressive Change at Utako in Abuja on Thursday.
Buhari, who was the CPC’s presidential candidate in the 2011 election, said he wept when he looked at the way the country was blessed by God, but its citizens were poor.
He said, “This is a country that is well-blessed both materially and otherwise. God has blessed us more than we expected. We have so much land for agriculture.

UNILAG Babes Naked Themselves To Curse FG Over Change Of Name

These girls, from what we learnt, said they and some of their friends actually sought admission into the University of Lagos because of its unique acronym, 'UNILAG' and they are very mad at President Jonathan for changing all that with his Democracy Day broadcast.

Should these young girls go this far all because of acronym swag?

Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd)

Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, who was the presidential candidate of the Congress for Political Change (CPC) at the 2011 elections, said today he may run again for President in 2015.
If he does, he will be doing so for a fourth time, and in every election since Nigeria’s return to a democratic system.
His statement came on a day in Abuja when Buhari’s character was acknowledged by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, who described him as an “upright” man.
Buhari had previously said he would not run again after 2011, but he indicated he might reconsider that position because of pressures from Nigerians and different groups.

Wole Soyinka Opposes UNILAG/MAU Renaming

Goodluck Jonathan’s Gift Horse

By Wole Soyinka

This is one gift horse which, contrary to traditional saying, must be inspected thoroughly in the mouth.
Primary from all of us must be a plea to the MKO Abiola family not to misconstrue the protests against the naming of the University of Lagos after their heroic patriarch. Issues must be separated and understood in their appropriate contexts. The family will acknowledge that, among the loudest opposing voices to Jonathan’s gift horse, are those who have clamoured tirelessly that MKO Abiola, the Nigerian nation’s president-elect, be honoured nationally, and in a befitting manner.

Linda Ikeji's most revealing interview EVER!!!

Much has been written in the formal and informal media about Nigerian’s most popular blogger Linda Ikeji, this  last Monday was  a memorable opportunity for a personal conversation with the famous blogger, I  took a deliberate swipe on her on personal issues. I am most happy and comfortable, I could not be more so until I forced every word out from her in a clandestine type of interview. it was for me the most revealing conversation recorded, we had a long chat as my midget captured every dots of the J and every tittle of the T leaving no stone unturned.

A lot of your fans and readers were quite disappointed by your Mark Zuckerberg article last week. It made you sound very materialistic and shallow. What happened?

Linda: I was trying to be funny but people didn't get the joke (laughs). I didn't know people would take me literally and that seriously. I clown a lot. Sometimes I write things just to get reaction or just to make people laugh. Mark Zuckerberg is someone I really respect. I've always said there are 3 people I'd like to meet before I die. President Obama, Mark Zuckerberg and Jackie Chan. In that particular order. So Mark is

7 things women do that drive men mad

Annoying female habit 1: Making an anniversary out of everything

What is it with women turning the nice little things in life into a grand gift-exchanging, champagne-popping ceremony? We return home from a normal day at work to be met with a candle-lit dinner and an expensive looking gift but, quite frankly, it makes our heart stop. Have you done something wrong? Is it your birthday? My birthday? Oh silly me, it’s the anniversary of the first time we looked at each other. Please refrain from doing this, ladies. We have a hard enough time getting event dates right without being shouted at for not buying the dog a card to celebrate the anniversary of his first vaccination.

Annoying female habit 2: Piling the bed with cushions

Charles Taylor jailed for 50 years

Charles Taylor, the former Liberian president convicted of aiding war crimes last month, has been sentenced to 50 years imprisonment.
The prosecution at the Special Court for Sierra Leone in The Hague, led by former US military prosecutor Brenda Hollis, had asked for a sentence of not less than 80 years.
The sentence is likely to be served in a British jail, as the UK is the only country that has indicated it is willing to house Mr Taylor.
Mr Taylor and his defence counsel had called the requested sentence “manifestly disproportionate and excessive”.
Mr Taylor’s counsel, British barrister Courtenay Griffiths, asked that Mr Taylor not be forced to serve his time in Britain, saying he would be “culturally isolated”.
Mr Taylor was convicted on 11 charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity for having aided and abetted the rebels in the civil war in Civil War from 1998 to 2002.

Clean PC by July 9 or lose internet: Google

“Your computer appears to be infected” – if you’re among the half-a-million users who might have seen this warning appear on your PCs recently, you’ll be in for a nasty surprise come July 9.
Unless users with infected computers clean up their devices by then, they risk losing internet connectivity, search engine Google is warning as part of a new campaign to rid the world of the dreaded DNSChanger malware.
Starting this week, Google says it is “undertaking an effort to notify roughly half a million people whose computers or home routers are infected with a well-publicised form of malware known as DNSChanger.”
The Domain Name System (DNS) translates familiar web address names like google.com or emirates247.com into a numerical address that computers use to send traffic to the right place. The DNSChanger malware modifies DNS settings to use malicious servers that point users to fake sites and other harmful locations.

Oshiomhole spoke while testifying as first prosecution witness in a suit between him and Dockland Communications Limited, publishers of News of the People Magazine.
The hearing took place in a Benin High Court on Monday.
The governor had dragged Dockland Communications to court, asking for unspecified amount of money as damages for the publication by the company which alleged that he impregnated the under-age girl.
He told the court that the content of the publication, which came out sometimes last year with a front page caption - “Oshiomhole’s Sex Power Exposed: Impregnates young girl six months after death of wife” was scandalous.
The governor informed the court that he was alleged in the publication to have bought the girl a Jeep and that he was also interfering in the decisions of authorities at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, because of the girl.
Oshiomhole said he was seeking damages because the publication caused his family serious psychological trauma six months after the death of his wife.

Back from the dead- This corps member resurrected in mortuary, but is now blind

Yobe State, for the national youth service programme. But his world turned upside down when he got involved in a car crash that claimed the lives of 16 of his fellow corps members while travelling to Damaturu, the place of their primary assignment. The young man tells his heart-rending tale of abandonment by the government. Excerpts…
When did you go for your NYSC programme and where? I went for my NYSC in 2010 and was posted to Yobe State in the North East. I spent three weeks in Fika camp for the orientation after which I was posted to Damaturu to teach at TD GSS Dindin-gari. During the festive period of 2010, we had a short break in the school I was teaching as a youth corps member. So I travelled to Enugu on December 24. I had actually wanted to spend the time with my family back home in Kogi but my Head of Department, who is from Enugu, had always wanted me to spend the Yuletide with them.

Museveni First Lady to Suceed Him as the Ugandan President

Mrs. Janet Museveni

Janet Museveni has emerged as the preferred successor to the president, with the full backing of her husband, who is also chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement.
President Yoweri Museveni’s recent statement in an interview with NTV Uganda that he will not be in office beyond the constitutional age limit of 75 years has kicked off a race to succeed the Ugandan leader, with frontrunners jockeying to win the big man’s backing.
But The EastAfrican understands that this race may well be already over.

Apparently, First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni has emerged as the preferred successor to the president, with the full backing of her husband, who is also chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement.
Senior security sources told The EastAfrican that the president dropped the name of his wife, who is also Ruhaama MP and Minister for Karamoja Affairs, a few weeks ago while meeting top army generals, who form a critical power base of the regime, and whose support will be key to whoever succeeds the incumbent.

Accoring to sources, the Presidency decided to dig into the Babalakin’s case because twice he was quizzed and on each occasion the EFCC appeared to be reluctant to dig deep.

“A Nigerian Senator Duped Me”—Pat Utomi

Dr.Pat Utomi

Pat Utomi, one of Nigeria’s prominent political economists and a former presidential aspirant,  offered an anecdote that unwittingly supported a widely reported statement by erstwhile President Olusegun Obasanjo that Nigeria’s National Assembly is filled with rogues.
Addressing a group of Christian youths in Lagos at an event themed “The Building Blocks of Effective Leadership,”  yesterday, Mr. Utomi touched on dysfunctions he had witnessed in the Nigerian system and x-rayed the difficulties of changing the system. His topic, “Towards Creating a Network of Corruption-Intolerant Youth Leaders,” presented a comparative analyses of Nigeria, once regarded as a powerful and emerging nation, and Indonesia, a nation that was once written off in the past
Mr. Utomi, who holds a PhD, spoke about the shocking twist of fate in which Nigeria became a strategic failure whilst Indonesia became a model of success. He identified corruption as a critical factor in the fortunes of the two countries.

Lady Gaga Indonesia concert cancelled: Islamists threatened chaos if she entered nation

Lady Gaga has cancelled a concert in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, citing “security” concerns, after protests by religious groups.
Police in Indonesia had refused to issue a permit for the US pop star after Islamic groups objected to her show, claiming it was too vulgar.
The hardline Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) had threatened to try to stop Lady Gaga getting off the plane.
Indonesia is officially secular but has more Muslims than any other country.
More than 50,000 tickets had been sold for the 3 June event. Promoters said they would offer refunds.

Quote of the day: Adewale Ayuba on marrying many wives

“I am a proud Muslim. I’ve been to the holy pilgrimage almost every year. My father was a prominent Islamic scholar from Ikenne-Remo in Ogun State. I can never marry a second wife. I have searched everywhere in the Holy Koran, I have not seen where it is written that a Muslim must marry more than one wife. Some people are merely twisting the scripture to satisfy their selfish desires by acquiring women and siring many children, whom, in most cases, they cannot cater for morally, educationally and financially.” Fuji artist, Adewale Ayuba.

Really? That's news to me. There's nowhere it's written in the Qur'an? Meanwhile, Ayuba is married to Azukaego Kwentoh, an Igbo woman he married in 1989. They have 6 children.

Justice Salami who has approached the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Dahiru Musdapher, afresh, to issue him a letter reinstating him to enable him resume office, said President Jonathan has no role to play in his reinstatement.

Justice Salami said the Federal Government could not give any condition for his reinstatement since, constitutionally, it is the National Judicial Council (NJC) which suspended him that could reinstate him to the office.
